Join other solos in Central America for this tropical 11-day Highlights of Costa Rica tour. Spend a night in the countries capital, San Jose, before making the journey to the biodiverse area of Tortuguero, where you will spend the night in a jungle lodge! Next on the agenda is exotic Arenal, where you can swim in the crystal clear waters of the La Fortuna Waterfall and relax in the areas natural hot springs. Your journey continues to Monteverde, home to Costa Rica’s stunning Cloud Forest – a meandering walkway system above the treetops, brimming with exotic creatures. Spend your last couple of days relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio before heading back to the capital for an evening, where you can wander the historic neighbourhoods to your heart’s content.

Day 1 – Arrive San José
When you arrive in San José, make your way to the hotel for check-in, which will be from 2pm onwards. Today is an arrival day so there are no planned activities. If you arrive in time, you can join your guide and the rest of the group for dinner to get to know your fellow travellers! Overnight in San José.
Day 2 – San José / Tortuguero (B,L,D)
We will be leaving early this morning and travelling to the biodiverse area of Tortuguero. On the way, you will be able to admire the stunning forest area of Braulio Carrillo National Park. We will reach La Pavona Dock and board our boat at around 11am to journey further into this extraordinary paradise along the Tortuguero Canals, where you will be surrounded by a huge variety of flora and fauna, and no shortage of wildlife. After lunch, we will visit the Sea Turtle Visitors Centre to learn about the species of turtles that come to lay their eggs on the beaches of Tortuguero, and afterwards we’ll visit the beach area itself. Tonight, we will have dinner at our jungle lodge in Tortuguero.
Day 3 – Tortuguero / Arenal (B,L)
Today you will be woken by the sounds of the birds in the rainforest! We will be getting up very early to head out on a boat to watch the sun rising over the Tortuguero Canals, and spot wildlife such as sloths, monkeys and reptiles. Afterwards, we’ll head back to our lodge for breakfast and then begin our journey to Arenal, stopping for lunch on the way. Upon arrival, you will have free time to relax. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 4 – Arenal / La Fortuna (B,D)
After breakfast at the hotel, you will hike to the breath-taking waterfall of the La Fortuna River and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding lush tropical environment. You can also take a swim in the waterfall to cool off after the short hike. In the afternoon, you will visit the Arenal National Park, where your guide will take you through rainforest trails to see monkeys, toucans, wild turkeys, sloths and a large variety of birds. You will eventually reach the observation point, where you will have unrivalled views of the Arenal Lake and volcano. This evening, you will visit the Ecotermales Hot Springs, for a relaxing dip in the natural pools – dinner will also be included here. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 5 – Arenal / Monteverde (B)
After breakfast, you will check-out and begin the 3-hour journey to Monteverde, a small community, located at the top of the Tilaran Mountain Range, and an important eco-tourism destination in Costa Rica. In the afternoon, you will visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest, a real highlight of this trip. Here, you will discover the wonders of the Costa Rican rainforest. This adventure is a walk of around 2 hours, during which you will learn about the natural history of the area and hope to see some of the local wildlife! Overnight in Monteverde.
Day 6 – Monteverde (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, get ready for your Hanging Bridges and Canopy Tour. The hanging bridges are located in Selvatura Park and consist of about 1.9 miles of trails above the treetops. You will explore for around 1.5 hours, before continuing for your canopy tour. The Canopy tour consists of 13 cables, including a 1 km long cable, 15 platforms and one Tarzan Swing. There is a total of 2.2 miles of total cable length. The tour is suitable for people of all ages although there are limitations due to standard harness sizes and lasts for around 2.5 hours. Overnight in Monteverde.
Day 7 – Monteverde / Manuel Antonio (B)
After breakfast, check-out of the hotel and begin the 3-hour journey to Manuel Antonio, located on the warm central pacific coast of Costa Rica. On the way, you will stop off at the famous Tarcoles River Bridge to observe the giant crocodiles, the lush landscape and the rice and palm oil plantations. Overnight in Manuel Antonio.
Day 8 – Manuel Antonio (B)
After breakfast, you will explore Costa Rica’s famous National Park Manuel Antonio. Take a leisurely stroll with your guide through the exotic rainforest and learn about the abundance of wildlife that lives here. Your tour will end at the beautiful sandy beaches of the area, where you can stay and relax in the afternoon. Overnight in Manuel Antonio.
Day 9 – Manuel Antonio (B)
After breakfast, you will have the day at your leisure. You could partake in some of the optional activities on offer, such as catamaran and white-water rafting tours or a horse-back riding experience. Overnight in Manuel Antonio.
Day 10 – Manuel Antonio / San José (B)
Today you will make the 3-hour journey back to San José, where you will spend the last night of your Costa Rica tour.
Day 11 – Depart San José (B)
Today is a departure day so there are no planned activities. You are free to depart San José at anytime.

Hosts One of our local guides will be your main point of contact throughout the trip. They will meet you at the airport and stay with you for the duration of the tour. Our guides are very knowledgeable, if you need anything at all, just ask them!
Clothing You can expect temperatures in the high 20’s, so make sure you pack light, breathable clothing. You will also need comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.
Health Always seek medical advice from your doctor or travel nurse a minimum of 8 weeks before you travel, as some inoculations take longer than others to carry out. Remember that your travel insurance may not cover you if you do not have up-to-date vaccinations.
