Join us on this amazing 10-day trekking holiday through the countries’ most beautiful region, from Pindaya to the stunning Inle Lake. Trek along the local people’s trails, through their rice paddies, and sleep in local villages for a true experience of life in Myanmar. You will finish your trekking in Myanmar at the beautiful Inle Lake, just in time to catch the last couple of days of the Phuang Daw Oo Pagoda Festival, the most important festival in Myanmar. Trekking in Myanmar
Day 1 – Arrive Yangon

Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Dinner will be arranged for the first night of your tour. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 2 – Yangon

Kick start your tour with a journey through the colonial-style city centre of Yangon. Visit the golden Sule Paya stupa, built over 2000 years ago, visit the Chauk That Gyi pagoda, to see its magnificent reclining Buddha, and Karaweik Hall to marvel at the uniquely decorated hamsa-bird-shaped floating barge on Kandawgyi Lake. Take a trip to Bogyoke Market before finishing up the day at one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda. The 2000-year-old gold structure dominates the city’s skyline and is a site not to be missed. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 3 – Yangon / Heho / Pindaya / Sin Khuang

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Yangon Airport for flights to Heho. Upon arrival, you will be driven to Pindaya (roughly 1-hour), to the place where you will begin your trek. You will start your trek along a trail through farmland and lush forests, stopping for lunch and a break in a local village. Afterwards, continue the trek to Sin Kuang Village where you will spend the night in a local house. Please note, accommodation will be very basic throughout the trek, often with just mattresses with bed linen, pillows and blanket in a shared room.

Day 4 – Sin Khuang / Taung Myint Gyi / Mew Daw

After a peaceful night’s sleep, enjoy a big breakfast in the village as you have a tough day ahead. Today you will trek along a trail used by local tribal people of the region, crossing over hills and down valleys, enjoying the lush scenery and ways of life as you walk. You will arrive in the late afternoon at Mew Daw, your home for the night.

Trekking Time: 8-9 hours

Day 5 – Mwe Daw / Nawar

Today will be another beautiful day of trekking on trails and through rice paddies, taking in the local culture and landscapes as you go. Not many tourists make their way through this region so the local people are often very excited to see you. You will arrive at the town of Nawar in the late afternoon.

Trekking Time: 8-9 hours

Day 6 – Nawar / Thi Thien

Your penultimate days trekking will begin by heading up a steep valley along a local trail, surrounded by rice paddies and vegetation. After stopping for lunch, you will continue trekking until you reach Thi Thien, where you will sleep.

Trekking Time: 5-6 hours

Day 7 – Thi Thien / Indain / Inle Lake

Today’s trek will be a fantastic finale as you approach the gem of the highlands of Myanmar; Inle Lake. You will be rewarded for your efforts with beautiful views of the sparkling water from the lake, it’s surface only disturbed by a few local fishermen. When you reach Indain, you will take a boat ride to your hotel, where you can enjoy a much-deserved drink in the beautiful surroundings. Overnight at Inle Lake.

Trekking Time: 4-5 hours

Day 8 – Inle Lake

Today is the second last day of the Phuang Daw Oo pagoda festival, which is the most important festival in Myanmar. You will celebrate with the local people and enjoy the activities of the festival, like the boat race, where rowers standing upright in their boats, row with just one leg. Overnight at Inle Lake.

Day 9 – Inle Lake

Today is the last day of the festival, and also the final of the boat race competition. Overnight in Inle Lake.

Day 10 – Inle Lake / Heho / Depart Yangon

An early start will take you back to Heho for domestic flights to Yangon, and the end of the tour.

  • Up to six weeks before departure, a place can be reserved on payment of a deposit of £150.00, after this date it would be the full amount of the trip.

Hosts One of our local guides will be your point of contact for this trip. They will meet you at the airport in Yangon, take your for dinner and be able to answer any of your questions throughout.

Clothing You will need to pack light for this trip as you will be carrying everything with you throughout the trek. Aside from the obvious, we recommend a small towel, long sleeved sweater and pants for the evening, lightweight hiking boots or running shoes, sandals or flip flops for the evenings, sun hat and sunglasses. Please be advised that you should also keep your shoulders covered and trousers or shorts below the knee – this is essential at religious sites and respectful everywhere else.

Health Make sure you have plenty of mosquito repellent with you, wear this both day and night to prevent bites. Always seek medical advice from your doctor or travel nurse at least 8 weeks before you travel.
