Today you will have an early start, departing Windhoek at 08.30 to travel north, roughly 300km, towards the Okonjima Nature Reserve. On the way, you will stop at several small towns including Okahandja, home to Namibia’s largest wood carving market. Upon arrival at Okonjima, you will set up your camp and relax for a while, before setting off on the afternoon activity to the Africat Rehabilitation Centre, where you can get up-close-and-personal with some rescued cheetahs. After your tour, you will return to camp and prepare for dinner under the stars.
Day 3 – Okonjima / Etosha National Park (B,L,D)
Another early start, continuing north another 300km to the East Etosha region, passing through more small towns and making stops for fresh supplies along the way. Arriving at the Etosha National Park in time for lunch, you can relax at the camp before heading out on your first game drive! Overnight at the Etosha National Park.
Day 4 – Etosha National Park (B,L,D)
Today will be a full day’s game driving, leaving early to enjoy the cool morning air. Whilst you will remain in the Etosha National Park, you will be moving to a campsite in the middle of the park. On the drive, you will visit several waterholes and are afforded spectacular views of the Etosha Pan. The game viewing is usually excellent and you will see new species on this side of the park. Stopping in Halali for lunch and a quick dip in the swimming pool, you will continue to Okaukuejo, where you will be setting up camp for the night. After dinner, there is another chance to witness Etosha’s big game at a floodlit waterhole on the outskirts of the camp. The waterhole has been described as one of the ‘best game viewing opportunities in Southern Africa’, and black rhino, African elephants, lions and numerous species of antelope are frequently seen there.
Day 5 – Etosha National Park / Damaraland (B,L,D)
Leaving Etosha today, you will begin your journey with a relatively short drive to the small town of Outja, to once again stock up on supplies. From here, you will drive a little further and visit a Himba Village. The Himba’s are a community of tribes-people who have migrated to this region with their traditional lifestyle and customs intact. Here, you will learn about marriage customs, traditional food and the mysteries of the ‘Holy Fire’ religion. From here it is another short drive to your campsite in Damaraland.
Day 6 – Damaraland (B,L,D)
Today you will be driving through one of the most beautiful desert regions in Namibia, Damaraland. Driving 190km west via the Grootberg Pass, taking a detour to visit the ancient bushman rock engravings at Twyfeltontein and to have some lunch. From here, it is just a 1-hour drive to your campsite so you will have the afternoon to relax and explore.
Day 7 – Damaraland / Swakopmund (B,L)
Today, you will head deeper into the desert, past Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg. You will make a small stop in the small town of Uis, an old mining town, before heading towards the Atlantic Ocean and the Skeleton Coast. Once on the coast, you will head to Cape Cross to visit the seal colony where, at certain times of the year, as many as 100,000 seals congregate. From here, you will be following the Skeleton Coast down to Swakopmund, a seaside town with excellent seafood restaurants. Overnight in a hotel.

The second part of today’s journey will take you across the Namib gravel plains, and then into the mountain desert. Distances covered today will be roughly 300km, but when you see the immense red sand dunes of the Namib Desert, you’ll soon realise the drive has been worth it. We aim to arrive during the late afternoon to watch the colours glow and change on distant mountains to the east. Overnight in Sesriem.

You will then have the option to do a 5km walk through the dunes to reach the ancient trees of Dead Vlei.
