Day 1 – Arrive Tirana
Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Tirana.
Day 2 – Tirana
The first full day of your Albania tour will be spent exploring crazy, colourful Tirana, Albania’s capital. Starting at the National Historical Museum, you will travel to the Et`hem Bey Mosque, pay a visit to the Opera House overlooking Scanderbeg Square, and take a walk down the main boulevard to see the City Hall and other governmental buildings. In the evening, you will visit a former Communist Residential area, now filled with modern bars, restaurants and pubs. You will continue on to the Martyrs Cemetery and finally Petrela Castle. Overnight in Tirana.
Day 3 – Tirana / Vlora / Saranda
After breakfast, you will begin the journey to Saranda. You will take the Albanian Riviera route to Vlora, to visit the Independence Monument and Museum. You will then travel south, through the spectacular scenery of the Llogara National Park, until you reach the stunning Llogara Pass. From here, you will continue on to Himare and the Porto Palermo, home to the Fortress of Ali Pasha. After passing through the villages of Qepara and Borsh and you will arrive in Saranda, where you will spend the night.
Day 4 – Saranda / Butrint / Gjirokaster
After breakfast, you will depart for a tour of Butrint, a remarkably well preserved archaeological UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by the ancient Greeks. Here you will see Illyrian walls, a Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Baths, mosaics, churches and temples at one of Europe’s earliest aqueducts. From here, you will continue on a spectacular journey through the Muzine Pass and Buret Mountains to reach Gjirokaster. Upon arrival, you will visit the fortress, where you can admire fabulous views over the Drinos Valley between Albania and Greece. You will also visit the National Museum of Arms and the Ethnographic Museum whilst in Gjirokaster. Overnight in Gjirokaster.
Day 5 – Gjirokaster / Berat
After breakfast, you will depart for a tour of Berat, home to some of the best examples of Ottoman architecture. Known as the town of 1000 windows, Berat is one of Albania’s most beautiful towns. Whilst you are here, you will visit Berat Castle, the Sultan’s Mosque and the Museum of Religious Art. Overnight in Berat.
Day 6 – Berat / Durres / Kruja / Depart Tirana
After breakfast, you will be driven to Durres, one of the oldest towns in Albania, to see the Byzantine city walls and Roman Amphitheatre. From here, you will continue on to the previous capital, Kruja, stopping to visit a local family and drink some raki on the way. In Kruja, you will visit the Skanderbeg and Ethnographic Museums and the Old Bazaar. In the evening, you will be transferred to the airport for your international flights.
