Day 1 – Arrive Kutaisi
Day 2 – Kutaisi
After breakfast at the hotel, kick-start your Georgia & Armenia tour with a trip to one of Georgia’s most stunning natural wonders, the Prometheus Caves, covered in stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls and underground rivers and lakes. The Mountain of Khvamli where, according to legend, Prometheus was chained to a rock in eternal punishment for stealing fire, can be seen from these caves which are set in the Sataplia National Park. After lunch, you will visit the stunning Okatse Canyon, home to one of the tallest waterfalls in Georgia, the Kinchkha Waterfall. Overnight in Kutaisi.
Day 3 – Kutaisi / Borjomi
After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gelati, a medieval monastery founded in 1106 by King David IV of Georgia. A couple of miles down the road you will stop at the Motsameta Monastery, set on a spectacular cliff-top above the Tskhaltsitela River. You will then continue your journey to Borjomi, where you will take an excursion to taste the mineral water from a natural spring. Overnight in Borjomi.
Day 4 – Borjomi / Vardzia
After breakfast, you will begin the journey to Vardzia, stopping at the beautiful Mtsvane Monastery, the Rabat Castle in Akhalstike and at one of Georgia’s oldest fortresses, Khertvisi, built in the 2nd century BC. Upon arrival in Vardzia, you will be taken to your guesthouse for dinner.
Day 5 – Vardzia / Gyumri / Yerevan
Today you will be crossing the border into Armenia, and heading to its second largest city, Gyumri. Here, you can walk through the historical centre of the city, which is famed for its atmosphere. After lunch in Gyumri, you will be driven to the city of Yerevan, Armenia’s capital. Yerevan is a city of contrasts, clapped out old bangers cruise next to brand new Mercedes, whilst old-fashioned teahouses run next to upmarket wine bars. You will enjoy walking around the centre when you arrive, watching the locals as they fill up the seats of the abundant outdoor cafes. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 6 – Yerevan / Garni-Geghard / Yerevan
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven to the village of Garni, home to one of the oldest fortresses in Armenia. Here, you will also visit the classical Hellenistic style Temple of Garni, believed to be the only Greco-Roman temple of its kind in Armenia and one of the country’s main attractions. From here, you will walk (roughly 2 hours) to the gorge of the Azat River, where you can observe basalt rock formations, and then onto the Geghard Monastery.
After lunch, you will be driven back to Yerevan for a walking tour of the city, stopping at Republic Square, Abovian Street, the Opera House and Baghramyan Avenue. You will also have the option to visit the Yerevan Brandy Company to sample some Armenian brandy! Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 7 – South Armenia Tour
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be visiting the stunning Echmiadzin Cathedral in the city of Vagharshapat. Another short drive will take you to the Khor-Virap Monastery, located on the Armenian-Turkish border with spectacular views of Mount Ararat. You will then stop at a small wine-factory in the village of Areni, Vayots Dzor Province, for a wine-tasting session. After lunch you will visit the Noravank Monastery, famed for its medieval architecture, and the Tatev Monastery, accessed via the Wings of Tatev cable-car. Overnight in Goris Town.
Day 8 – North Armenia Tour
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be heading to Khndzoresk, located to the right of Goris Town, to observe the ancient cave village. From here you will head north via the Vayots Dzor Province for lunch and onto Selim Caravanserai, a building dating back to 1332, built to accommodate weary travellers who had crossed the mountainous Vayots Dzor region. From here, continue to the Noraduz Village, a medieval cemetery famous for the biggest collection of Armenian Khachkars, and then onto Lake Sevan and the Sevanavank Monastery, with its spectacular views over the lake and mountain ranges. Overnight in Dilijan Town.
Day 9 – Dilijan / Haghpat / Tbilisi
After breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Haghartsin Monastery, dating back to the 10th century, hidden in the mountainous forests of the area. After lunch, you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Haghpat Monastery, a medieval complex dating back to 976. You will then explore the village of Haghpat itself, play local games, learn about traditional life and taste the local fruit vodka! From here, you will be crossing the border at Bagratashen, back into Georgia. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 10 – Tbilisi
For the last full day on this Georgia & Armenia tour you will be given a city tour of Tbilisi. Starting at the Sameba Cathedral, the city’s main cathedral, heading to Meteki Church, set in the historic neighbourhood of Meteki, from here you will take the cable car to the Narikala Fortress, which dominates the old towns skyline. Expect amazing views over the capital from the top. You will also visit Abanotubani, Peace Bridge, Rike Park and wander down the old town streets. Overnight in Tbilisi.
Day 11 – Depart Tbilisi
